Technology
At the Chicago Center for Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry, state of the art technology is incorporated into everyday dental practice. This allows for greater safety, comfort, education, and conservation. The following are some of the technologies found at the Center.
Digital Charting
The integration of digital technology into our dental office has provided an environmentally considerate and efficient method to organize patient files. All record keeping is now stored as digital files, which allows for the enormous reduction of paper and office supplies used.
Digital Radiography
Dental X-rays are an indispensable tool in diagnostics and treatment. By using digital technology, the patient's exposure is reduced by 80%. In addition, the image appears instantaneously on a computer monitor, which then expedites treatment. Lastly, the need for developing chemicals and appropriate disposal are no longer needed.
Security
Unlike conventional dental charts, which can be viewed by anyone, The Chicago Center for Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry uses a fingerprint scanner to allow only authorized access into the computer database.
Intra-oral Imaging
Our philosophy is to co-treat with the patient being actively involved in the decision making process. We use small "pen" cameras, which display an image on a monitor, allowing the patient to see the condition of a tooth or group of teeth first hand. With this information, the patient will typically understand the problem to a greater degree.
Cosmetic Imaging
Often times the decision to undergo cosmetic changes is done reluctantly or not at all due to a poor understanding of what the final result will be. The best tool we have is to use digital imaging, where cosmetic changes are made to a patient's picture stored in a computer. We can then more effectively describe the changes being recommended, whether it is the color, shape, or position of the teeth.
Lighting
The lighting within the dental operatories use natural daylight compact fluorescent bulbs. These bulbs not only provide the perfect lighting for shade matching, but they are known to help with SAD (Seasonal Affected Disorder). In addition, the bulbs use 70% less energy than conventional incandescent bulbs, helping to conserve natural resources.
Air Quality
In an effort to maintain a healthy and pleasant breathing environment, the air within our office is constantly purified. In addition to an electronic air filter, we use an ultraviolet germicidal light. This combination not only reduces volatile organic compounds such as chemical gases and solvents, but it sterilizes bioaerosols such as microorganisms, viruses, molds and bacteria.
Computer Controlled Anesthesia
At the Chicago Center for Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry, we use "The WAND", a revolutionary computer controlled dental injection system. This device adjusts the flow of anesthetic to the type and location of tissue being anesthetized, resulting in an injection which is virtually pain-free.
