About 80% of people have some kind of form of gum disease, and that’s because a majority of people forget to floss every single day. Oral B gives tips about the proper way to floss, and it’s important to follow these steps in order to keep your gums healthy.

1. Wind up about 18 inches of floss around your middle finger. Use your index fingers and thumbs to pinch the floss.

2. Your index fingers and thumbs will guide the floss for you upper and lower teeth.

3. Use a zig-zag motion to guide the floss between your teeth, and curve the floss around the sides of your teeth for a thorough cleaning.

4. Slide the floss up and down on the tooth surface and gum line. Be through but gentle when sliding the floss to prevent complications.

After you gorge on turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, grab your floss and get rid of the plaque between your teeth. Properly flossing everyday will protect your mouth from gum disease.
